Dementia Care Center

The Project is operated by Samsung Seoul Hospital/ Department of Neurology, Dementia Clinic under the “Smiling Brain Project” with the Gangnam-gu Dementia Care Center. It aims at preventing seniors in the community from acquiring dementia. It implements a variety of programs, such as, early diagnosis and thorough checkup, brain/health clinic, etc. so as to play a central role in the dementia healthcare in the community.

Early discovery of dementia

• Recipients: Gangnam-gu residents over 60 y.o. (Priority given to those 65 y.o. or over )
• Method of checkup: Applicant can visit the Gangnam-gu Dementia Care Center in person or apply for checkup over the telephone or in the internet homepage
• Scope of service: Screening test → Complete test (1st) → Complete test (2nd) → Specific test for the cause of dementia
• Cost: free of charge for screening/complete tests, deductible for specific test for the cause of dementia (a certain amount is given to support to low-income groups)

Dementia prevention and cognition improvement project

• Public Center Visitation and checkup; visiting relevant institutions and checkup, sending post card to people with dementia, free checkup, lecture about dementia prevention, providing dementia-related materials, commemorating Dementia Day

Dementia Registration Management

• According to the result of the screening/complete tests free of charge, full-time professional doctor; interview with the applicants and later classified into normal, high-risk, and dementia groups. The following services are given

Brain Health Clinic

• Cognition Treatment through Music
  • Recipients: Dementia, high-risk, normal senior citizens
  • Objective: Aimed at improving cognitive function, mental health and social function of the patients falling under normal, light cognition disorder (high-risk), and with dementia control patients
• Cognition Treatment through Arts
  • Recipients: Dementia, high-risk, normal senior citizens
  • Objective: Aimed at improving cognitive function, memory, and improve ability to recognize time and space, designed to enhance brain function
• Cognition Treatment through Exercise
  • Recipients: Dementia, high-risk, normal senior citizens
  • Objective: Aimed at maintaining and improving cognitive and physical functions of the patients falling under normal, light cognition disorder (high risk), and dementia control patients Systematic exercise program
• Cognition Treatment
  • Recipients: Dementia, high-risk, normal senior citizens
  • Objective: Aimed at maintaining and improving cognitive and physical functions of the patients falling under normal, light cognition disorder (high risk), and dementia control patients Systematic exercise program

Dementia patient family gathering (Self-help Meeting)

• Carrying out routine meetings once a month among family members (guardian) registered in the Gangnam-gu Dementia Care Center
• Consisting of programs, such as dementia-related education, caring method, information sharing, various styles of stress relief, etc. (closed-door)
