Acute Infections

The number of acute infectious diseases increases following the change in global environment and the appearance of new infectious diseases through the increase in cross-border human/material exchanges. Therefore, the Center intends to establish more systematic measures to manage infectious diseases and operate a monitoring system so as to stop the occurrence and prevalence of infectious diseases and realize a “Healthy Gangnam”.

Classification of Infectious Disease by Law
Topic Description
Group I Infectious Disease Infectious diseases that require establishing disease control measures, as soon as they occur because they are carried by drinking water or food and threaten to occur in groups.
Group II Infectious Disease Infectious diseases falling under the state vaccination project because they can be prevented and controlled through vaccination
Group III Infectious Disease Infectious diseases requiring recurrent monitoring and disease control measures because they may occur sporadically
Group IV Infectious Disease Infectious diseases designated through a Decree by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as infectious diseases that have newly occurred or is threaten to occur in the country or threaten to spread to the country from overseas
Group V Infectious Disease Infectious disease designated through a Decree by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as diseases acquired from parasites requiring routine monitoring.
Designated Infectious Disease Infectious diseases designated through a Decree by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as needing monitoring to determine whether it has spread or not; infectious disease other than those falling under the aforementioned groups (I - V)
Personal hygiene control standard to prevent infectious disease
  • After using the bathroom, be sure to wash your hands with soap in running water before preparing food or having a meal.
  • Boil drinking water and eat well-cooked food.
  • Be sure to wash fruit and vegetables in clean running water. In case of fish and shell fish, cook them after washing, and eat them right away, if possible.
  • Don’t keep foods too long.
  • When any infectious disease prevails in the area, avoid eating with many people.
  • With any symptoms of diarrhea, avoid traveling to other places.
  • Keep the environment around your home clean to get rid of the habitat of harmful insects such as mosquito, fly, etc.
  • Install mosquito net in the washroom and kitchen.
  • Cover trash bags or septic tanks.
